Guide to Proper Shaving and Proper Tools to Use
Basically, shaving involves swiping a razor across your face until all the facial hair is gone and removed. It is still advantageous to hear advice from dermatologists and barbers even if you think you know how to shave since you have been doing it for years.
It takes more effort and know how to really have a good shave. The objective of shaving is to get rid of repetitious thrusting of the blade on your face or scraping it with a razor repeatedly until the prickly hair is all gone. It is actually giving a good one pass shave on your face.
As a substitute to spending time thrusting the razor on your face, you can instead spend the necessary time in prepping your skin for the razor. There is a need to soften the protein in the hair and this can be done by washing your face with a facial cleanser. Using soap is harsh because it washes away that softening oil in the hair.
The next step is to make that shaving cream or gel lather up and let it stay there for two to three minutes so that it can further soften the hair to allow a one-pass shave possible. The longer you make it sit on your face, the better, although spending the time is not always practical.
Another shaving product that you will need is a brush, you cannot just rely on your fingers to lather your shaving cream unlike the shaving brush. A good brush really pushes the cream into the hair and makes it much easier to shave.
If you are going to buy a razor, do not be fooled by multiple blade razor. it is enough to get a single blade razor as it can do a good shaving job, but most professionals prefer a double blade razor, and nothing more as long as you prep your hair properly. Of course you need to make sure that your razor is sharp. Discard it if you see a nick in the blade. Men who shave their beards every day need to change the razor blade every week or two. Changing blades is another good reason to stick with an inexpensive single blade. Three or five blade razors are usually not changed often.
If you keep your skin hot and moist, you are more. To prep your skin use a moist towel and use the towel during the shave to keep the hair soft. There are kits available with the tools that you need to prep your skin and hair.
It is important to shave with the grain or in the direction your hair is growing. If you do against the grain, you may get a closer shave but the razor ca burn or you can get inborn hair offshoots.
